On being a .blog founder
I was recently asked to give few words on the fancy new .blog top-level domain for use in some future marketing material. Here’s the snippet in full, in case it’s modified to better fit their needs:
Using a .blog domain is the most important thing you can do to upgrade your blog. It clearly communicates what the primary purpose of your site is without taking anything away from what you are able to do with it. It conveys a joyful commitment to blogging, sharing, and staying open & in-touch, in a way that a .com domain doesn’t really represent anymore.
That got be thinking about my old blog, where this blog is now, and who I’m currently grouped with on the .blog founders page. I’m surrounded by friends like Matt, Donncha, & Helen, heroes like Dave, artists like Lauryn Hill, great web hosts like Bluehost & DreamHost, and a bunch of blogs from my friends at Automattic about all the cool stuff they’re working on.
A pretty epic selection of influencers, leaders, thinkers, & doers.
It suddenly made my new & empty blog feel pretty inadequate, so I’ve decided to move all of the content from https://jaco.by to here. This will be my first go at using the importer tool in a while, so wish me luck, and I’ll report back how it goes.

Back to Twenty Sixteen
Yesterday I switched my blog’s theme back to WordPress’s current default theme, Twenty Sixteen. I’m really enjoying the simplicity of a traditional layout again.
I also like being able to rotate small header images between page views. This current batch of images is from some screenshots I took while playing the very pretty and fun iOS game Monument Valley.
Since the About.me sidebar widget was retired from WordPress.com starting July 1st, I decided to try putting a Patreon link over there instead. If you’re reading this and happen to enjoy using any of my WordPress plugins, give that link a click and let me know what you think about it here in the comments. <3
